WhatsApp is available on Starter and above. BoundBot supports Embedded Signup and manual credentials so you can connect a WhatsApp Business setup to a bot. Use Embedded Signup if it is available in your environment. It keeps you inside the dashboard and opens the Meta flow in a popup. Embedded Signup can connect a new number or an existing WhatsApp Business app number without disconnecting that number from the WhatsApp Business app. Use Manual Setup when you manage your own permanent access token. You need the Phone Number ID and permanent access token; the WhatsApp Business Account ID and display phone are optional fields in the form.

Connect WhatsApp

  1. Open Channels -> WhatsApp.
  2. Click Connect channel.
  3. Select the bot that should answer on WhatsApp.
  4. Choose Embedded Signup or Manual Setup.
  5. For Embedded Signup, complete Meta authorization and select the correct WhatsApp Business Account and phone number.
  6. For Manual Setup, enter the Phone Number ID and permanent access token, then submit the form.

After connection

Once the setup is complete:
  • confirm the channel status is healthy
  • send a test message from WhatsApp
  • verify the thread appears in Inbox
  • confirm replies come from the correct bot
  • send an image and confirm it renders in Inbox
WhatsApp allows normal free-form replies only during the 24-hour customer-service window after the customer’s latest message. When that window expires, wait for the customer to message again or use an approved Meta template outside the Inbox free-form reply flow.
WhatsApp setup depends on Meta account permissions and business assets. If the channel does not connect cleanly, check Meta permissions first before debugging BoundBot.
